About Shillong

Shillong is the beautiful hill station of Meghalaya located on Khasi Hills that is why it is also known as "The Abode of Clouds". It is also said that these rolling hills remind the European settlers of Scotland because of which it is also famous as "Scotland of the East". This colorful city offers adventurous outdoor activities such as rock climbing and boating. Shillong Peak is the highest point in Shillong Peak which offers spectacular views of the city with views of lush greenery and cascading waterfalls. There are many places in Shillong to visit. Ward's lake is a pretty artificial lake surrounded by gardens and it is also known as the Polok Lake. Sweet falls is one of the steepest and the most mesmerizing falls of the country. Spread Eagle falls is located in the East Khasi District are considered to be the widest in all of Shillong. Mahadev Khola Dham is a popular attraction for Shiva devotees. This temple is 150 years old and people believe that the Shiva Lingam placed here was discovered by the Subedhar Major of the 8th Gurkha Rifles. Elephant falls is a unique fall in the main city of Shillong. This fall is named so because it is believed that the waterfall got its name from a huge elephant-shaped rock near it, which was later destroyed in an earthquake. It is the collection of three smaller falls which merge into one. Garo Hills, Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills forms the central part of Meghalaya and are famous for the flora and fauna and hill stations like Shillong and Cherrapunjee.
